TROY- Vera (Kelly) Bruce, 94, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Twin Oakes Personal Care Home. She was the loving wife of the late George C. Bruce who passed away December 30, 2010. The couple married on July 20, 1940 and had 70 happy years together.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 11 a.m. to Noon on Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Gerald W. Vickery Funeral Home Inc., 1093 West Main Street, Troy, Pa. The funeral service to honor Vera’s life will be held at Noon on July 28th at the funeral home with her pastor, Rev. Richard Noggle officiating. Private burial will be at the convenience of Vera’s family in Glenwood Cemetery.

Vera was born on October 5, 1919 in Leroy Township, Bradford County, PA, daughter of the late Servellon and Mabel (Smiley) Kelly.  She was a 1937 graduate of Horseheads High School, and worked for 28 years as a Wire Inspector at GTE Sylvania until she retired in 1980. After she retired, Vera and George loved traveling around the country with their camper. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy, was a member of both the 25 Year Club and Women’s Club at GTE Sylvania, was a member of the Troy American Legion’s Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed making crafts.

Vera is survived by her son, James L. (Gale) Bruce of Troy; her daughter, Sharon (Clyde) Castle of Fassett, Pa.; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, her sisters: Jean Williamson of Salinis, CA and Sara (Carl) Schnautz of Horseheads, NY, her brother Dean Kelly, also of Horseheads, along with several nieces and nephews.  

Vera was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; her son, William R. Bruce; her daughter, Carla McGonigal; her granddaughter, Kristi Isham; and six brothers and sisters.
