Welcome to the memorial page for

Ben Bulkley

September 28, 1938 ~ January 13, 2018 (age 79) 79 Years Old

Ben Bulkley, 79, went to be with our Lord on Saturday January 13, 2018 after a brief battle with leukemia.

Ben was born September 28, 1938 in Canton to the late George Bulkley and Helen Crain Bulkley. He was raised on his family’s farm in East Canton and attended Canton School graduating in 1956. After graduation he worked at farming with his parents.

On May 14, 1960, he married Peggy Kelly of Williamsport and together they took up residence on a farm on Windfall Road in Granville. It was here that they spent over 57 years of marriage, raising their 7 children in a home filled with love, hard work and Ben’s favorite Westerns on the television.

Ben worked at Larimer and Norton in Troy for over 30 years making Louisville Slugger baseball bats. He was known far and wide for keeping countless people warm by delivering firewood to hundreds people over the years. He enjoyed making maple syrup, setting off fireworks, taking trips to Cape May with his family and was always ready to go when one of his grandchildren had an activity. He was an active member of St. Michael’s church in Canton. Ben kept himself very busy. There was always lawn to be mowed, wood to be split or something that needed fixed. He never sat still long. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help, especially his children. He would do anything for his family.

No matter how many jobs and activities kept him busy what he loved most was spending time with his family. “The pond” was his labor of love with its swimming pond, waterslide, waterfall, fishing lake, and pavilions for all to enjoy. There was nothing he liked more, than seeing his family and friends enjoying his creation.

He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, his children Mike (Kim) Bulkley, Mark (Faith) Bulkley, Helen (John) Donato, Joe (Lori) Bulkley, Andy (Lauri) Bulkley, Angela (David) Kopetan, his son-in-law John Drury, his grandchildren Emma and Claire Bulkley, Jay and Dan Drury, Tanner, Matthew and Marissa Bulkley, David and Tyler Fetterolf, Fran, Elena, Nick and Michael Donato, Elizabeth and Ariana Bulkley, Isaac, Jessica and Seth Bulkley and Robert and Benjamin Kopetan, great-granddaughter Addison Fetterolf, his sisters Marie (Gene) Kennedy and Juanita (Brian) Earle, his cousin Roger (Suellen) Tracey and his sister-in-law Dona Beers and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Karen Drury and his grandchildren Lauren, Keegan, Luke and Quinn.

As per Ben’s wishes there will be no calling hours. There will be a funeral mass on Saturday, January 20th at 11 am at St Michael’s Church in Canton. Arrangements are under the direction of the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr., Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA 16947.
