Mary Virginia (Cole) Strope

Mary Virginia (Cole) Strope, 53, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA passed away on Monday, September 1, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the loving wife of Dennis R. Strope.  The couple married May 27, 2001 and had 14 happy years together.

Mary was born on April 5, 1962 in Wayland, NY daughter of the late Nathan V. Cole and Rita L. (Davidson) Cole of Mytle Beach, SC.  She attended Wayland High School, was a hair dresser, and worked Security for the TSA.  Mary enjoyed entertaining and barbequing at her home, she loved making people laugh, loved traveling all over the United States with Dennis in their RV, and was loved by everyone she met.  Mary was Catholic by faith but first and foremost was a “Paratrooper’s Wife”.

Mary is survived by her husband Dennis and mother Rita, her children: Conrad Wankum of Jefferson City, MO, Spenser Wankum and Ashley Wankum, both of Myrtle Beach, SC, her sisters and brothers: Sandra Cole of McKinney, TX, David (Abbie) Cole of Cohocton, NY, Carol (Del) Worden of Myrtle Beach, SC, John Cole of Boston, MA, Patty (Wayne) Neu of Princeton, TX, Maureen Cole of Clare, MI, Geoffrey (Rhonda) Cole of Greenville, SC, Joanne (Fred) Oteri of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Joseph Cole of McKinney, TX, her brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald Strope of Armenia Mountain, PA, Pamela (Mike) McCarthy of Big Flats, NY, Dora Smith of Troy, PA, Thomas (Barb) Strope of Granville, PA, Jeffery (Julie) Strope of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, and William (Jodi) Franks of Gillet, PA, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She is also survived by her canine companions Jake and Tiger.  Mary was preceded in death by her father Nathan, her brother Kevin Cole, her mother-in-law and father-in-law Phyllis and Earl Miller, and her sister-in-law Sylvia Spencer.

A memorial service to celebrate Mary’s life is planned for a later date.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked memorial donations be made in Mary’s memory to Dennis Strope 4617 Austinville Road Columbia Cross Roads, PA 16914 to help defray funeral costs.
