Barbara Ellen (Newell) Kendall

Barbara Ellen (Newell) Kendall, 86, of Troy, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home in Granville, PA.

Barbara was born on November 17, 1928 in Springfield Township.  She was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Ward) Newell.

After graduating from Troy High School, Barbara married Robert G. Kendall on August 14, 1947 and together they raised their three children in the home they built on Mud Creek Road.  They celebrated 54 years of marriage before Robert passed away on December 3, 2001.

Barbara enjoyed taking care of her home, baking, needlework, reading and most importantly, spending time with her family and visiting her many friends.  She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Troy and served as the secretary of the United Methodist Women.

Barbara is survived by her daughter Sally (Steve) Sterling of Gillett, PA, and her sons Thomas (Donna) Kendall of Gillett and Richard Kendall of Troy.  She leaves behind her loving grandchildren Clint (Tammy) Harkness, Jodi Harkness, Nicole (Jason) Beardsley, and Michelle Kendall (Chris Payne).  She is also survived by several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and her step grandchildren.  She also leaves behind her brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Jack and Nelda Kendall, Jean Kendall, Jackie Raymond, Ruth Kendall, and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Barbara was preceded in death by her infant daughter Sheila Mae, brothers Merle and Leo Newell, brothers-in-law Philip, Merle, Clifford, and Wayne Kendall, and sisters-in-law Helen Newell and Betty Kendall.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA.  The funeral service to honor Barbara’s life will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 13th at the funeral home with her pastor and friend, Rev. Richard Noggle officiating.  Burial will follow the service in Bradford County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s memory to the First United Methodist Church of Troy 205 Redington Ave. Troy, PA 16947 or to the Allen F. Pierce Free Library 34 Fenner Street Troy, PA 16947 or to the charity of one’s own choosing.
