Mary Ward Obituary

Mary Norma (Varney) Ward, 88, of Springfield passed away peacefully late Sunday evening October 29, 2023, at the Sayre healthcare facility. Mary Norma Ward was born August 18, 1935. She was a graduate of East Smithfield high school. After high school she attended Beardsley’s Private Business School. She lived her entire life on her family farm in Springfield Pennsylvania until the past few years in which her failing health forced her to move into the Sayre healthcare nursing facility.

Mary was married to Glenn Ward for 60 + years until his passing in 2018. They were married on December 15, 1956. Mary and Glenn loved working and spending time together in the outdoors and took great pride in taking care of the lawn, cutting the winter’s firewood and she especially loved her horses. Mary and Glenn had many hobbies but tractor pulling, horseback riding, camping and attending Bluegrass festivals were at the top of their list. Mary had her own personal Farmall H that she won numerous first place trophies in the Powder Puff tractor pulling division. She was a longtime member of the Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan church and enjoyed spending time with her church friends.

Mary was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who always put her family first. Mary is survived by her children Mike Ward and daughter Annette (Dan) Patton and her grandchildren Jennifer (Noah) Depew, Jason Ward, Dustin Patton and Austen Ward. Great grandchildren Jason Ward Jr., Joslyn Ward, Tucker Depew, and Cireanna Depew. Brother- in- law Robert (Nancy) Ward and sister- in-law Patricia Merrill. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Glenn, parents Henry and Helen Varney and great granddaughter Madison DePew.

Services are private and are at the convenience of Mary’s family. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main St. Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
