Marguerite J. Eldred, beloved mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully Oct. 4, 2023, in Bentley Creek, PA, at the age of 99.
Marguerite was born on March 27, 1924, in Towanda, PA, to Myron and Helena (Bailey) Tuttle. She found comfort and strength in family and friends. Marguerite loved life and delighted in various endeavors. She worked at Thatcher Glass in Elmira, NY, as well as A&P Ann Page Foods in Horseheads, NY. Marguerite found joy in her work rewarding and always approached it with a positive attitude.
Outside of work, Marguerite cultivated creative interests that brought her immense happiness. She had a green thumb and reveled in gardening. Her crocheting skills were exceptional. Year after year, judges at the Bloomsburg Fair praised her beautifully crafted afgans, doilies, and tablecloths. Marguerite was an avid reader and loved being outdoors, whether it was camping or simply enjoying nature's beauty. Her boundless energy kept her constantly engaged and busy. Her faith was an integral part of her life, giving her strength and guiding her through each day.
Marguerite is survived by her children Kaye D. May of Waterford, MI, Lyle E. (Julie) Eldred of Ortonville, MI, Jacqueline R. Boucher of Gouldsboro, PA, and Jonathan R. (Darlene "Peach") Eldred of Ulster, PA. Marguerite leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Raymond E. Eldred, who passed away on April 26, 1990, her daughter Sharon Halstead, granddaughter Trisha, her sons-in-law, Ralph May, Dean Boucher’, Gene Halstead, and six brothers and sisters.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Marguerite's life at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, at Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church, located at 13255 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA, 16925. The service will be officiated by Pastor Robert Wuethrich. Burial will be private and at the convenience of her family in Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda, PA. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc., 1093 W Main St., Troy, PA, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Tri Township Ambulance Association, Inc., 16145 Berwick Turnpike, Gillett, PA, 16925. Marguerite deeply appreciated the care and support provided by the association and wished to express her gratitude by supporting their important work.
