Jack E. Andrus, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2025, in Farmers Valley, PA, at the age of 88. Born on April 9, 1937, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Elmira, NY, Jack lived a life full of dedication to his family, friends, community, and passions.
Jack was a man of many skills and talents. He began his career as a carpenter with Robbins Construction and later worked in maintenance for the Martha Lloyd Community Services. He was also a skilled carpet and flooring installer, known for his meticulous craftsmanship.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Jack had a zest for life and a deep love for racing, especially NASCAR. He was a racecar driver himself, winning the season championship at Chemung Speedrome in 1973. His passion extended to his collection of antique cars, classic cars, and hot rods. Since its inception in 2010, he was a familiar face at the Tuesday night Troy Town Cruisers, sharing his love for cars with fellow enthusiasts.
A pillar of his community, Jack was a steadfast member of the First Baptist Church of Troy for over 70 years, where he served as a long-time church trustee and custodian. His commitment to his faith and community was unwavering, and he touched many lives through his service, especially his dedication to the Troy Food Pantry where he volunteered.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Barbara J. (Lyon) Andrus; his children, Jeffrey Andrus, Kymberly (Donnie) Strickland, and Cindy (Chris) Wheeler, Brian (Kristy) Holley, and Dawn Murdock; his cherished grandchildren, Isabelle Holley, Destinee Strickland, Logan Holley, Jamie Shults, Jacob Erhard, Ryan Wheeler, Zackery Wheeler, and great granddaughter Kirsten.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Josephine (Porter) Andrus; his twin sister, Joan Addyson; his sister, Marlene Leiby; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Homer R. and Marjorie (Ross) “Pudge” Lyon.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jack's life on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Troy, 579 Canton St. Troy, PA 16947. A viewing will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM, officiated by Pastor Lynn Lockwood. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
