Winfield H. Woodland

Winfield H. “Woody” Wodland, 100, formerly of East Smithfield, PA passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at South Eastern Veteran’s Center in Spring City, PA. He was born on January 19, 1925 in Norristown, PA, son of the late Forrest C. and Josephine (Updegrove) Woodland. Woody was a US Army veteran serving his country in the 101st Infantry Regiment as a Communications Sergeant in World War II. He went to England, France; landing at Omaha Beach Head on July 14, 1943, Germany, Czechoslovakia, Luxembourg, and Austria.  He was awarded 5 bronze stars and a European-Africia-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal for his honored service. After the war Woody became a registered Master Plumber in Montgomery County, PA until his retirement. He belonged to the Master Plumber’s Association, BIE of Pottstown, PA, and VFW. He was also a member of the East Smithfield Federated Church, enjoyed hunting and spending time with his family. Woody enjoyed woodworking and construction and even built his own log home in East Smithfield.

Woody is survived by his son Donald J. Woodland and daughter Judith J. Phillips, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews, and step-children: Melanie Cowan, Bonnie Williams, Penney Geiss and Larry Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruby Hamilton Barnes Woodland, three sisters and four brothers.

The celebration of Woody’s life will be held at a later date at East Smithfield Federated Church. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main St. Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
