Wilma Jean Kittle Young, 91, passed away on November 23, 2025, at Twin Oaks Personal Care home.
Wilma was born February 10, 1934, the only daughter to Willis (Ward) and Lois Freelove Kittle on the family farm in Granville Summit Pennsylvania. She may have been the only daughter, but she was far from a princess. She could milk a cow or chop wood just as easily as she could bake a pie.
Wilma attended Troy High school where she met and fell in love with Ernest Young from Wetona. She and Ernie were married on November 22, 1951, and were by each other’s side until his passing on December 22, 2009. The Youngs lived in various places throughout New York and Pennsylvania before returning home to Bradford County in 1971. At that time Wilma was a homemaker and cared for their ever-growing family.
In 1972 Wilma started classes at Williamsport Area Community College and received her LPN degree. She then began a decades-long career as a nurse at the Bradford County manor. She cared for the residents with kindness and compassion for over 30 years. She treated each person with dignity and love.
Wilma was a skilled seamstress. She made many of her children’s clothing, including wedding gowns for two of her daughters. Wilma was a talented quilter, demonstrated by the numerous quilts she made for every member of her family (and quite a few friends as well). Every birth, wedding and graduation was celebrated with one of her hand sewn quilts. The warmth and beauty of the gifts remain a lasting legacy to the hands that lovingly stitched each quilt.
After retiring she and Ernie enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and traveling.
When her health made it impossible to live alone, Wilma moved into Twin Oaks Personal Care home, completing a full circle - moving within a mile of where she was born for the last years of her life. While a resident at Twin Oaks, Wilma continued her tradition of treating all she came in contact with compassion and dignity. She connected with old friends and made many new ones. She would often sit with residents who were ill, providing the same loving care and compassion she was known for as a nurse and a mother.
Wilma leaves behind her seven children and their spouses:
Vicki Haight, Kenneth & Violet Young, Rodney & Darlene Young, Cindy and Rick Husband, Judi & Steve Brunelle, Jerry & Michelle Young and Kristin & Todd Seeley. Wilma leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Wilma is also survived by her brother Harry Kittle and sisters-in-laws Alma Hartman and Shirley Young.
Wilma was predeceased by her husband, parents, her brothers: Duane, Bill, Leland (Skip) and Gary Kittle, her parents-in-law Richard and Genevieve Young, her brothers-in-law Thomas Young and Harold Hartman.
Her family wishes to thank Marsha Pepper and the staff of Twin Oaks Personal Care Home for providing Wilma with a loving home during the last years of her life.
To honor Wilma’s caring legacy, we suggest that you visit a local nursing or personal care home and brighten someone’s day.
