Viola E. Slater

Viola Elizabeth (Overrein) Slater, 79, lifelong resident of Troy, passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025 at the Sayre Health Care Center.

Born on October 26, 1945, in Troy, PA , she was the daughter of Joe Overrein and Abbie Schoonover. Viola was a graduate of Troy High School, class of 1963.

Viola worked at the Woven Label for many years. She also was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 49 and the Troy Fire Department Auxiliary.

Viola enjoyed her family gatherings and being a part of her community.

She is survived by her daughter Paige Olivia Bruce Slater, son in law David Fleming, Sr, grandchildren: Terri Bruce, Shawn (Shelby) Fleming, Jessica Meeker, Billy Bailey, and David Fleming, Jr. , great-grandchildren: Serenity, Shelby, Brentley, Colt, Kaylee, Ayden, Jayce, and Addison, sisters: Pat Overrein, Ruth Overrein, special friend Josephine Malier, and Beverly (George) Vickers, brothers: David Overrein and Duncan Overrein, many nieces and nephews, and friends.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ronald E. Slater, daughter Shelby Kay Fleming, and sister Eleanor Harman.

There will be a public visitation on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 11AM-12PM with a service to follow at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr., Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., 1093 W. Main St., Troy, PA, 16947. The committal service and burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Troy, PA.
