Thomas E. Guthrie, Age 82, of Big Pond Road, Springfield, Township passed away unexpectedly Saturday, January 17, 2015 at home. Tom was born February 24, 1932 in Leona, PA son of the late Lewis & Florence E. (Burdett) Guthrie. He was a graduate of Troy High School. Tom served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He and the former Cheryl L. Gates were married on July 8, 1966 at Cheryl’s parent’s home in Springfield Township. They enjoyed 48 happy years together. Tom retired in 1992 from Penn Dot where he worked as an equipment operator for many years. He was a member of the Springfield Odd Fellows and enjoyed showing his Farmall Tractors at the Troy Fair. Tom was a good friend to many and always enjoyed a good visit or traveling around the area with his family and brother Ozzy.
He was predeceased by his parents a brother Kenneth Guthrie and his in-laws, Horatio & Cleo Gates.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Troy Baptist Church. Tom will be laid to rest in Harkness Cemetery, Springfield Township, PA.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Cheryl are a daughter, Kelly (Scott Gee) Guthrie, a son Greg Guthrie, brother and sister-in-law, Ozzy & Sally Guthrie all of Springfield Township, PA, a special aunt Polly Mangus of Montour Falls, NY, sisters-in-law, Edna Guthrie and Nancy & Cliff Geer all of Springfield Township, several nieces, nephews, many cousins and a lifetime of friends also survive.
