Ruth (Smiley) Wells

Ruth (Smiley) Wells, 89, of Troy, PA, passed away on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Twin Oaks Personal Care Home. She was the loving wife of the late Herbert K. “Herb” Wells who passed away on May 28, 2004.  The couple married October 14, 1949 and had 54 happy years together.

Ruth was born on March 11, 1925 in Troy, PA, daughter of the late Benjamin and Marie (Luther) Smiley.  She was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1942, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Troy.  For several years Ruth worked as Troy’s telephone operator.  Ruth was a stylish lady who enjoyed gardening, mowing her lawn, and spending time with friends.

Ruth is survived by her step grandchildren: Greg (Carol) Button of Lawrenceville, PA, Mike (Karline) Clark of South Dakota, and Cathy Seeley of Sylvania, PA, several step great grandchildren, nieces Nancy Jennings and Cheryl Miller, both of Troy, nephew David (Rosetta) Scott of Elkland, PA, several great nieces and nephews, and her dear friends: Mary Holcombe Conkling, Hazel Watkins, Charlotte Morgan, and Donald D. White.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herb, her step daughter Florence “Toots” Clark, and her sister Louise Scott.

The memorial service to honor Ruth’s life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the First Baptist Church of Troy, 579 Canton Street Troy, PA with her pastor, Rev. Garry Zuber officiating.  Burial will be private in Glenwood Cemetery. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.

A “Special Thanks” to Twin Oakes Personal Care Home where Ruth was cared for like she was part of their family.
