Ronald Eugene Slater, esteemed Troy Community member, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025, at Darway Nursing & Rehab in Forksville, PA. Ron was born on March 9, 1940, in Towanda, PA, Ron was born on March 9, 1940 in Towanda, PA, son of the late Earl and Lura (Alexander) Slater. He was 84 years old at the time of his passing.
Ron proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he dedicated his career to working as a heavy equipment mechanic, sharing his expertise with Caterpillar in Turbotsville, PA, Cummings Lumber in Troy, PA, and Bradco Supply in Towanda, PA.
A man committed to service, Ron was a long-time member of Trojan Lodge #306 of Free & Accepted Masons. He was also a life member of the Troy Vets Club, where he served as Past Commander and played an instrumental role in constructing the current club building. In addition, he was a life member and past Fire Chief of Oscoluwa Engine & Hose Fire Co. in Troy, PA, demonstrating his dedication to his community and fellow citizens.
Ron is survived by his wife, Viola Slater; his son Dale Slater and daughter-in-law Eileen; his daughter Tina Slater-Kerrick; and his adopted daughter Paige Slater. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Jordan (Curtis) Williams, Mitchell Kerrick, Kenyon Slater, and Evan Slater, and great granddaughter Aurora Kerrick,. Also surviving are his brother Darwin Slater, and sisters Ellen Sandor and Wilma Barone, along with several nieces and nephews who will fondly remember him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Lura (Alexander) Slater, and his brothers George, Glen, and Phillip.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a viewing from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Monday, January 13, 2025, at Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, located at 1093 West Main St. Troy, PA. A Masonic Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM the same day at the funeral home, presented by Trojan Lodge #306 of Free & Accepted Masons. Following the services, Ronald will be laid to rest with full military honors in Glenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Troy Vets Club, 183 Veterans Dr., Troy, PA 16947, or to the Oscoluwa Engine & Hose Fire Co., 88 Firehouse Dr., Troy, PA 16947, in memory of Ronald's unwavering commitment to his community.
