Robert Johnson Hunter, 81, completed his earthly life at his home in Columbia Cross Roads on November 14, 2025. He was the son of Robert Samuel and Lillian Johnson Hunter. He was born in Lock Haven with his twin brother William Johnson Hunter on January 20, 1944.
Bob attended the Lock Haven School system, excelling in football, basketball, and track. Following graduation, he attended Lock Haven University, majoring in health and physical education. He continued his studies, graduating with his master's degree from Cortland University. He furthered his education by attending courses from Penn State.
In 1967, he began his teaching career in the Troy Area School District, creating physical education at the elementary level. He finished his career at the high school level, where he introduced pickleball to his students.
Bob’s love for running led him to cross country, a sport he loved with all of his heart. He was always so proud of his runners. His team only lost one meet in his coaching career. He was proud to say that many of his boys never lost a meet in their four years of running. His girls also garnished many medals also.
Being a “people’s person”, he found much joy in volunteering. He was a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the NRA. He was a patron sponsor of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. He was a faithful member of the Sylvania Lions Club.
In 1981-82, Bob took a year leave to become the District Governor of Multiple 14-G Pennsylvania of Lions Club International. During his year, he was proud to form 8 new clubs who would be able to serve their respective communities.
He was a recipient of two International President’s Awards as well as several Presidential Awards. He was a four-star progressive Melvin Jones recipient, a Pennsylvania Fellow, and a Joe Wrobleski Fellow.
Bob was a faithful member of the Alba Christian Church.
Bob is survived by his wife Beverly, his son Daniel G, and wife Billie Jo Lee, his daughter Bobbe Edwards, and husband Christopher. He has five grandchildren – Nicholas Stein, Mark (Vinnie) Colton, Courtnie Hoffman, Joshua Hunter, and Daniel Larson; his twin brother William J. and his wife Gail, sister and brother-in-law Barbara and husband David Lingle, and Mary Hastings and husband Geoffrey Snyder, and nieces Dr. Stephanie Duggan, Kimberly Whitley, nephews Yancey and Gavin H. Snyder.
He was preceded by his parents, Robert and Lillian Hunter, his in-laws, Daniel C. and Gladys G. Hastings, sister Ann Juister, and Fleda Hastings Fellinger.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
