Rachel (Mudge) Carson, 95, of Troy, passed away March 11, 2016. Born March 28, 1920 in Covington, PA to the late Kittie (Hubbard) Mudge and Cornish Mudge, Rachel graduated from Covington High School in 1938 and Mansfield College in 1942. She taught primary school in Nauvoo, Tioga County and in the Troy school system for many years. Rachel married the late Gordon R. Carson August 11, 1945 and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage.
Rachel was a talented quilter, artist and seamstress who taught her children and grandchildren the language of creativity. She was an exceptional mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
In addition to her parents and husband Rachel was preceded in death by and infant son, David, sisters, Dorris Benson and Marian Whitbeck, brothers, Delas Mudge and Robert Mudge.
She is survived by her sister, Dorna (Ed) Heyler of Westfield, PA, her children, Jim Carson of Troy, PA, Kate (Mark) Belden and Jon Carson of State College, PA, her grandchildren, Paul (Joelle) Carson of Houston, TX, Laura Carson, Erin Belden and Anne Belden all of State College, PA, and many nieces and nephews.
At Rachel's request, services will be private. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Leona, PA.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Rachel's memory may be made to Michael J. Fox Foundation, P. O. Box 5014 Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or to the American Cancer Society, 1948 East 3rd Street, Williamsport, PA 17701.
The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA have been entrusted with arrangements.
