Larry Raymond Phillips

Larry passed away at home surrounded by his family after a long illness with dementia and a short stint in hospice.

Larry was a 1957 graduate of Stroudsburg High School. He enlisted in the Army after graduation and was stationed in Texas. After the military, he worked as a PPL lineman until he moved his family to Troy, PA in the early 80’s to work for Imbt construction. He later was finally able to open his dream business of a general replair/state inspection garage.

He enjoyed drag racing his beloved Willy’s pickup truck, Scorpion II, and flying lessons before family life took over his free time. He was always up for a road trip to any racing event. He also enjoyed many years of fishing trips and stories of Dalhousie Lake in Canada. He enjoyed retirement and spending Winters being a snowbird in Florida with new and old friends. The last few years he carried on the tradition of having the guys “Coffee Club” in the neighborhood.

His quick wit and storytelling always kept you on your toes, and his one-line zingers were the stuff legends were made of. We found this in his senior yearbook and still find it fitting…

He would never say how proud he was of us, but anyone he knew would hear all about any accomplishments, awards, promotions and definitely where his grandkids were going to college. And in case you didn’t hear it, Jason is at Texas A&M Copus Christi and Maisie is at Penn State Main. He loved the swag merch that came along with every visit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willam and Catherine Phillips. Survived by his wife of over 50 years, Dian (Kessler), son Eric Phillips of Woodleaf NC and his partner Debbie Badnarik, daughters Stephanie and Mike McGowan of Birdsboro, PA, Diana and Greg Smith of Troy, PA, grandchildren Jason and Maisie (his Kate) McGowan of Birdsboro PA, sisters Barbara and Cathy of the Poconos, and his canine companion Memphis.

The family will not be having services in honor of his wishes. In lieu of flowers please donate to the VFW or a charity of your choice. Better yet, tell a joke, hit up a race at your local dirt track, or wear an inappropriate T-shirt, he loved them all.
