John "Jack" C. Kuyper

January 1, 1939 — May 15, 2026

Troy, PA

On May 15th, 2026, John (Jack) C. Kuyper was called home into the open arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Loved by people wherever he met them, feared by trout wherever he cast a line, Jack will be truly missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.

Born 1-1-1939, in Patterson, NJ, Jack fell in love with Troy, PA early in his adventurous life. In 1972 Jack and Dottie purchased Joe and Dorothy Trapani’s shoe store and repair shop in downtown Troy. For over 54 years Jack remained active in the store (Armenia Mountain Trading Post now known as Armenia Mountain Footwear), until his passing.

When he wasn’t fixing shoes, or selling log homes, Jack was usually on a trout stream enjoying his life-long love of fly fishing. He was also active in Austinville Church, The Masonic Lodge, The NRA, and Trout Unlimited. Jack always looked forward to tutoring new fly fishing students.

Jack was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother Kenneth, and his beloved wife Dorothy Field Kuyper. Jack leaves behind His son Clint (and Loretta) Kuyper and their children Luke and Kallie Kuyper. He also leaves behind his daughter Jennifer (and Kirt) Casler, their two daughters Lynze (and Nathan) Mewhort, and Tately Casler. Finally, he had two adored great-grandchildren David and Evellyn Mewhort.

A lifelong fly fisherman, Jack found joy in quiet waters, good company, and God’s creation. The family invites you to celebrate a life well lived by the water, under open skies, and in faithful pursuit of the Lord, as we gather to share stories, laughter, and fellowship — just as he loved along the riverbank.

Family and friends are asked to gather at 4:00 PM on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at the Troy Sale Barn, 50 Ballard St., Troy, PA to celebrate Jack’s life. Jack’s request in lieu of flowers is a donation to Trout Unlimited at tu.org.
