James Albert Hall

November 29, 1937 — July 9, 2025

West Burlington, PA

James “Jim” Albert Hall, 87, of West Burlington, PA, passed away on July 9, 2025, at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital after a brief illness. He was born on November 29, 1937, in Troy, PA, on his family’s farm. He was the son of Virgil and Sara “Sadie” (Cowl) Hall.

Jim was a 1955 graduate of Troy High School. The family has heard many stories of his teenage adventures around the town of Troy—including the mysterious light on top of the smokestack every Halloween and the infamous half stick of dynamite at the town reservoir.

Jim enlisted in the Army, where he served for four years, including a year in Germany—where he was stationed when JFK was assassinated in 1963. After his military service, Jim worked on heavy equipment and as a welder at GE Railcar.

On February 21, 1969, Jim married Vivian Ohlsen, and they eventually settled in Springfield Township. In 2000, they moved to their farm, Millennium Acres, in West Burlington. They shared 56 happy years together.

Jim’s passion was hunting wild game. He traveled all over the world and brought back many trophies. He was especially proud of achieving the “Dangerous Five”: leopard, lion, hippo, water buffalo, and elephant. A committed conservationist, Jim supported wildlife protection through his hunting fees and donations to various foundations. He was especially passionate about the Foundation for Hope Outdoor Adventures, an organization dedicated to giving kids with life challenging conditions the opportunity for the hunt of a lifetime. Jim also enjoyed golf—and a good story.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Adam and Caroline Hall, and his granddaughter, Adaline, all of Troy; his canine companion, Trouble; special cousin, Tommy Dunbar of Troy; sister Sara Jo (Jim) Smiley of Monroeton; and dear friends Dan and Charlotte Catlin of Mount Pleasant, MI; Doug Welch of Rome; Kevin Welch of Waverly, NY; and Tony “Big Semp” Semple of Ann Arbor, MI.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 W Main St., Troy, PA. The funeral service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 1:00 PM on Friday, July 18th at the funeral home with Rev. Garry Zuber officiating. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made in Jim’s name to Foundation for Hope Outdoor Adventures at 7400 Hickory Valley Drive, Fenton, MI 48430.
