Eugene Harold Parmenter, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on August 2,1948 to William Randell and Beatrice Irene Parmenter of Smithfield Township.
Gene lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, hard work, and the simple routines that brought him happiness. He loved being surrounded by the people he cared about most and could often be found sharing stories, laughter, and quiet moments with family and friends.
A man who showed his love through action, Gene found deep joy in helping wherever he was needed. He especially enjoyed being part of the everyday rhythms of family life, from early mornings and daily chores to offering guidance and steady support. Helping care for goats and horses became one of the many ways he stayed connected, always finding a way to show up, even when he couldn’t be there in person.
Gene spent many years in warehouse work driving a forklift before finding a role he truly loved: driving a bus for local college athletic teams. Bus driving was more than a job to him, it was a source of pride and purpose. He especially cherished trips to New York City, enjoying the responsibility of the road, the energy of the city, and the stories he always brought home.
In later years, Gene continued his love of travel and music by journeying alongside Jacob Gilpin, helping to set up music venues; work that blended dedication, adventure, and camaraderie.
Outside of work, Gene was an avid NASCAR fan, loved attending car shows, and enjoyed traveling whenever he had the chance. He took pleasure in collecting red trucks and spending quiet hours working on puzzles. One of his most cherished daily routines was visiting his mother, Beatrice, and sitting down together for coffee, simple moments that meant the most to him.
Gene leaves behind his loving children: Brian Parmenter (Chari), Tina Hartzell (Jeff), Pamela Suro (Nate), and Denise Parmenter. His beloved grandchildren: Zachary, Zeigan, Avery, Riley, Jullian, Mason, and Kennadi. His brothers, Kenneth Parmenter (Judy), Joesph Parmenter (Elfriede), and his sister Carolyn Stedge (Gary). His mother, Bea Parmenter, along with many nieces and nephews who stayed in close contact. He is also fondly remembered by his many dear friends who were such an important part of his life, especially Diane Bahr and Dave Williams.
Gene will be remembered for his steady presence, strong work ethic, and the quiet devotion he showed to his family each and every day. His willingness to help, his love for the road, and his appreciation for life’s simple moments will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 10:00-11:00 AM on Saturday, February 7, 2026 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 W Main St. Troy, PA.
