Betty (Foust) Slingerland, 93, of Troy, PA passed away on Tuesday, December 02, 2014 at her home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of the late Wilbur S. Slingerland who passed away on November 23, 2009. The couple married March 31, 1942 and had 67 happy years together.
Betty was born on September 8, 1921 in Granville, PA, daughter of the late Joseph and Maude (Shoemaker) Foust. She was a graduate of Troy High School, Class of 1938, and was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Troy. When Betty was in high school she worked for Cooke’s Pharmacy, and after she worked for the Hank Mitchell Insurance Agency, the Athens Sale Barn, and ended her working career working with her sister Marie at Milky Way Farms where she was a server. Betty was a member of the Troy Vets Club Ladies Auxiliary and was a former member of the Eastern Star. When she was younger, Betty enjoyed bowling and belonged to several bowling teams, also enjoyed dancing with Wilbur, and later in life enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her sons Micki J. (Michelle) Slingerland of Nashville, TN and Eric W. Slingerland of Columbus, Ohio, her grandchildren Blair Slingerland and Damian Slingerland, her sisters Norma Shedden and Marie Seeley, both of Troy, and her brother Joey (Ellen) Foust of Granville, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilbur, her brother Teddy Foust, and her sister Blanche Mott.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 10:00-11:00 am on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA. The funeral Service to honor Betty’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 6th at the funeral home. Burial will be private and at the convenience of Betty's family in Windfall Cemetery.
