Beatrice Marie (Barrett) Butcher, age 81, of Granville Summit, PA passed away on June 13, 2025 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Buffalo, NY due to complications from a blood disease (MDS). She was born on March 19, 1944, in Sayre, PA, to the late Oliver L. and Cora Mae (Wood) Barrett. As a child, Beatrice delighted in large family gatherings during the holidays, riding her bike, and playing basketball. She fondly remembered her years at Mansfield Jr High School and cherished reconnecting with childhood friends Donnie and Peggy Robbins after Troy High School. Beatrice married the love of her life, James Arland Butcher, on March 31, 1962, in Granville Summit, PA. Together, they shared a life filled with love and treasured memories until his passing. Beatrice is preceded in death by her husband, James, and her parents. During her career, Beatrice worked at Canton Manufacturing, where she contributed to the production of Shop Vacs. Later in life, she enjoyed driving a flag car for her husband and son, Bub. Beatrice had a passion for NASCAR, especially cheering for the #9 car, and she found joy in watching football.
She is lovingly remembered by her children, Brad Butcher and wife Marika of Granville Summit, Dan Butcher and wife Holly of Pottstown, and Sherrie Shoemaker of Milan. She is also survived by her ex-daughter-in-law Bonnie Bastian of Horseheads. Her cherished grandchildren include Tiffany Barton (Brian Zimmer), Eve Aigler (Ben Aigler), Nathanael Butcher (Mary Saunders), Alex Butcher, Hunter Benjamin, Grace Butcher, Kevin Shoemaker, Selah Butcher, and Natalie Jennings (Timothy Jennings Jr). Beatrice's legacy includes her beloved great-grandchildren, Jordan Barton, Abigail Zimmer, Mahki Aigler, Isabella Aigler, Peyton Jennings, and Timothy Jennings. Beatrice leaves behind her dear siblings, Connie Buck (Stanley), Barbara Ross (Butch), Lauretta Porter, and Stub Barrett (Linda), as well as her sister Carol Rutty who predeceased her. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, especially Cindy Ward Putnam and Adam Rutty.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Oliver L. “Boots” and Cora Mae (Wood) Barrett, her devoted husband, James A. Butcher, and her cherished son, James “Bub” L. Butcher. Beatrice was also preceded in death by her grandson, Joshua H. Butcher, and her sister, Carol Rutty. Her dear friends Connie Forrest and Peggy Robbins also preceded her in death.
Family and friends are welcome to call from 1:30-2:00 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2025 at the Granville Center Church of Christ, 5733 Route 514, Granville Summit, PA 16926. The Celebration of Beatrice’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, June 22nd at the church, guests are kindly asked to dress in nice casual attire. Arrangements have been entrusted to Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. Troy, PA.
