Alice Joy Jennings

January 13, 1938 — January 31, 2026

Troy, PA

Alice Joy Jennings, 88, of Troy, PA, went home to be with the Lord on January 31st, 2026, following a life of dedication to faith and her family. She was born in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York on January 13th, 1938 to Alice and Theodore Trevorah, where she attended school and graduated in 1955. Following her graduation, Alice, known affectionately to friends and family as Joy, went to Hawaii to attend college to become a music teacher. It was there that she met United States Marine Wilbur Jennings, and for them it was love at first sight. The couple married in June of 1960 and made their first home in Elmira, New York for a short time before returning to Will’s hometown of Troy, PA. They lived on Ballard Street and had their first child, Keith, in 1961 and their second, Cynthia, a year later. Joy loved everything about living in town; she could walk everywhere she wanted to go, enjoyed the company of her neighbors and lived close to her church. Around 1964 a neighbor introduced her to bowling, and she was hooked! She spent the next 50 years bowling and got her kids interested too. Several years later Joy and her husband bought property outside of town, then began the project of founding their home by digging a five acre pond and planting ten thousand pine trees by hand. They built their forever home in East Troy in 1978 and shared a beautiful life there with their family.

Joy was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother; an avid bowler, talented gardener, and lover and teacher of music. She loved to attend bible study, volunteered her time delivering meals to those in need, and also worked as a census taker. She had a passionate interest in genealogy long before internet resources were available and spent countless hours researching her family tree and painstakingly documenting her findings. She was a woman of steadfast faith, a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy and of its choir, and loved spending her time with her friends, family, and cherished pets. One of the greatest joys of her life was the time she spent with her grandchildren, Paige and Allison. Her home was a second home to her granddaughters, who would come and keep her busy playing cards and board games, watching movies together, and going out for ice cream after dinner. She also loved to travel and took many trips with her daughter Cynthia, including the trip of a lifetime to Ireland. She was selfless, patient, and kind.

She is predeceased by her parents Theodore and Alice (Kirkpatrick) Trevorah, her mother and father-in-law Lawrence and Ellen (Baxter) Jennings, her beloved husband of thirty-two years Wilbur Jennings, sister-in-law Martha Allen, daughter-in-law Kelly Jennings, and special cousin Gilbert Griffin. She is survived by her son Keith Jennings, her daughter Cynthia (Edward) Quigley, her granddaughters Paige (Karl) Gundersen and Allison Jennings, her brother-in-law Walter Allen, and her nieces and nephews. Joy’s family would also like to extend a special gratitude to Sayre Memory Care, whose facility and staff provided competent and compassionate care to Joy during her and her family’s time of need. Joy was dedicated to her family, a generous member of the community, and a cheerful friend to all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 11:00 AM-12:00 PM on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 W Main St. Troy, PA.
