Alan Krasner of Troy, PA passed away on June 29th, 2026 at the age of 69.
Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he grew up with games of neighborhood stick ball and became an unrequited Mets & Knicks fan and a Pingry grad.
Alan studied Economics & Political Science at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, PA, where he met his wife Lorie Williams over cinnamon sugar toast at party. True to his independent nature, he joined anti-fraternity KDM, forging lifelong friendships.
Post-college, he served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cameroon (West Africa), helping cocoa farmers set up small businesses and earn a living wage. His accompanying adventures braving dirt roads on a makeshift motorcycle and fighting battles with poisonous snakes became the stuff of legend.
Passionate about financial literacy and its potential to lift up those in need, he pursued an MBA at Cornell University upon his return from Cameroon. He also married Lorie—having to justify those astronomical phone bills they'd run up during his time abroad.
The couple settled in Harrisburg, PA, with their two young children, where Alan had a successful career in computer consulting and finance, working for Deloitte as a partner and for Merrill Lynch as a financial advisor. In parallel to his corporate pursuits, he continued his volunteer efforts to address systemic inequality, as a board member on the local YWCA.
Through spiritual exploration and meditation, he discovered a love of the written word—jotting down little insights gleaned in quiet moments. The practice, which became increasingly committed over time, led to Alan publishing three books, which explore the big questions through prose & haiku. His final work, a compilation of stories and observations on life, is forthcoming.
In 2021, Alan & Lorie retired to Lorie's hometown of Troy, PA as empty nesters. Warmly welcomed back into the community, they embraced the rhythm of smalltown life and enjoyed the incredible views of the Endless Mountains from their deck.
Alan was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and spent the remaining weeks of his life at home on hospice care, surrounded by friends and family. He died as he lived—with grace, acceptance and gratitude to those who cared for him.
He is survived by his wife Lorie Williams Krasner, his son Drew Krasner; his daughter, Ali Krasner, Ali's partner Samuel Wrobel, and their daughter, Matilda Wrobel Krasner, age 2; his sister Barbara Krasner and her daughter, Sarah Morrison.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: Guthrie Hospice, 421 Tomahawk Road Towanda, PA 18848.
Alan was so grateful to the hospice caregivers and we would be honored to gift other patients the same peaceful end-of-life experience that he had.
