F. Dale Mattocks, 86, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 7, 2024, from his home in Springfield, PA. He was the beloved husband of Janet (Cole) Mattocks with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Dale was born on the family homestead in Springfield, PA on September 16, 1938, to Frederic and Cecile (Boughton) Mattocks. He attended Troy High School, where he was active in FFA and graduated as valedictorian of his class. Before his high school graduation, Dale bought his own farm and went into partnership with his father on the home farm, now designated a Century farm.
Dairy farming and a life of service to God, his family, and his community were his lifelong passions. He enjoyed being part of the farming community, giving help to neighbors as needed. His farming career included several recognitions such as National FFA’s American Farmer Degree, Master Farmer Degree, and Dairy of Distinction Award.
Dale faithfully served his community in many ways. As a member of Springfield Baptist Church, he served as moderator, choir member and a trustee for many years, giving practical help and advice for building projects and general upkeep of the church property. Dale was the leader of the Leona 4-H Dairy Club for 50 years and served as an advisor for the 4-H County Council and on the Bradford County Extension Committee for a number of years. He also served on the Troy School Board for 21 years, including three years as President, and was a member and officer in Troy Grange for over 25 years.
Dale also faithfully cared for his family, joining in family musical endeavors, attending family members’ sports games and concerts whenever possible, and always willingly lending a helping hand and thoughtful word of advice with his warm smile and witty sense of humor.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Janet (Cole) Mattocks; daughter, Annette Beyer and husband, Greg; son, Mark Mattocks and wife, Wendy; daughter-in-law, Tanya Mattocks; grandchildren (and spouses), Allison (Joshua) Benton, Courtney (Evan) Perry, Megan Beyer, Tiffani (Clayton) Schucker, Nathaniel Mattocks, Brooke Mattocks, Brandon (Lizzy) Mattocks, Amity Mattocks; and great grandchildren, Jackson Schucker, Kennedy and Madison Perry, and Emersyn Schucker.
He was preceded in death by his son, Lyle Mattocks; his sister, Donna Hettich and brother-in-law, Robert Hettich.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Springfield Baptist Church, 3093 Springfield Rd, Columbia Cross Roads, PA 16914. Visitation will be from 9am to 11am with a service to follow at 11am. The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 W Main St. Troy, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
