Richard J. Carlonas, 72, of Troy, PA, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA.  He was the loving husband of Cheryl (Bitcola) Carlonas. The couple married August 17, 1968 and had 49 happy years together.

 

Rich was born on July 6, 1945 in Newark, NJ, son of the late Walter and Irene (Stravinsky) Carlonas.  He was a 1963 Scranton Central High School graduate and was a 1967 graduate of the University of Scranton. For many years Rich was the Spanish teacher for the Troy Area High School, and was also the girls’ softball and boys’ basketball coach.  He was also a PIAA Softball Umpire and Basketball Referee.  Rich served his community in the Troy Lions Club and was a member of the Corey Creek Golf Course.

 

Rich is survived by his wife Cheryl, his son Brian Carlonas of Houston, TX, his daughter Richelle (Kevin) Gwin of Cincinnati, OH, his beloved grandchildren Connor, McCartney, and Kennedy Gwin, his brother Ronald (Marilyn) Carlonas of Scranton, PA, his sister Diane (Andrew) Voinski of Clarks Green, PA, his sisters-in-law Cynthia (Augie) Grant and Barbara (Tom) Rudzinski, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

Family and friends are welcome to call from 4:00-6:00 pm on Monday, January 22, 2018 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA and again from 10:00-11:00 am on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church 107 North Washington Street Canton, PA.  The Mass of Christian Burial to honor Rich’s life will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 11:00 am on Tuesday, January 23rd at the church with Rev. Fr. Joseph Kutch officiating.

 

Memorial contributions may be made in Rich’s memory to the Trojan Booster Club P.O. Box 164 Troy, PA 16947 or to St. Michael’s Parish 106 North Washington Street Canton, PA 17724.
