Donna Elizabeth (Burleigh) Corey

Donna Elizabeth (Burleigh) Corey, 82, of Granville Summit, PA passed away peacefully at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY in the presence of her family and Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 14, 2017.   

Donna was born on March 11, 1935 on the family farm in Austinville, PA, to her parents Frank and Ruth (Christopher) Burleigh.  She attended the Columbia Cross Roads School, then went to Troy High School where she was Valedictorian of the Class of 1953.  She then went on to the Robert Packer Hospital School of Nursing and Mansfield University.  She graduated and worked for a while until her marriage to Harry Corey, Jr. on October 13, 1957 and then went to Camp Lejeune, NC. After returning to Pennsylvania with her husband Harry, Donna worked for the Bradford County Manor until her health forced her to retire. 

Donna loved bowling with the girls on the Thursday night league.  Her favorite thing was to make chocolate bit cookies for her grandchildren and church functions.  Some of her favorite times were family gatherings on Thanksgiving and cookie baking with the family for Christmas.  She was a great card player with her and Harry’s card club and love to win the game Aggravation.  Donna loved to go on long car rides and check on the family farm in Austinville where as a girl she loved to hunt with her dad and family.  Donna was a lifelong member of the Austinville Union Church and was always seen there helping where she could.

Donna is survived by her husband Harry, her daughters Cheryl Slaymaker of Mainesburg, PA, and Linda (Raymond) Barrett of Newark Valley, NY, her six grandchildren: Jessica Heater, Jamie (Jason) Suter, Donna Porter, David (Sara) Slaymaker, Daniel (Jessica) Slaymaker, and Dean (Victoria) Slaymaker, her sisters: Ann Jeanette (Ronald) Kennedy of Roseville  PA, Lorraine Meteger of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, and Mary Lou (Tom) Judson of Newark Valley, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and good friends Bev Weaver and Alice Schucker.

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tom (Daisy VanDyke) Burleigh, sister Kathy (Jeff) Earle, and a newborn baby brother.

Family and friends are welcome to call from 11:00 am-1:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2017 at the Austinville Union Church, Austinville Road in Austinville, PA. The funeral service to honor Donna’s life will be held following the view at the church with her pastor, Rev. Kenneth Marple officiating.  Burial will follow in Columbia Valley Cemetery.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA.
