Wanda L. (Watkins) Yanchuk, 85, of Troy, PA passed away peacefully after a long illness on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Bradford County Manor surrounded by her family.  She was the loving wife of Bernard A. “Bernie” Yanchuk.  The couple married April 30, 1952 and had almost 63 happy years together.

 

Wanda was born on July 29, 1929 in Columbia Cross Roads, PA, daughter of the late Edgar and Anna (Trask) Watkins.  She was a Troy High School graduate, Class of 1947.   After high school, Wanda went to work for the Troy Area School District as secretary for Prof. W.R. Croman, namesake to our local elementary school. Wanda and Bernie spent two years in Georgia while he was serving his country in the US Army during the Korean War.  She was Christian by faith.  After returning home to Troy, Wanda enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, and spending time with her family.   

 

Wanda is survived by her husband Bernard, her sons: Ronald (Carolyn) Yanchuk of Troy with son Bradley (Ashley) and family, Michael (Barbara) Yanchuk of Troy and children Aaron and Megan, Daniel (Jill) of Gillett with daughters Shawna and family, Laura (Jim), Stacey (Mark) and family, her brother William (Ann) Watkins of Columbia Cross Roads, her sisters Muriel (Robert) Shaylor of Troy and Jean (Maurice) Fuller of Williamsport, along with several nieces and nephews.

 

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister little Mary Belle, her sisters Marie Decker and Elizabeth Newhart, and her brothers Howard and James Watkins.

 

Services will be private and at the convenience of Wanda’s family.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy, PA.

 

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in Wanda’s memory to the charity of one’s own choosing.  Her favorite charities being the Oscoluwa Engine and Hose, Troy Food Bank, Western Alliance Ambulance, American Cancer Society or the Bradford County Manor Activity Fund.
