Lester (Jr.) Watkins

Lester Watkins, Jr., of Troy, PA passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at the Arnot Ogden Medical Center in Elmira, NY.  Lester was born on January 17, 1937 in Troy, son of the late Lester and Lillian (Schoonover) Watkins, Sr.  He was a 1954 Troy High School graduate where he was a four sport varsity letterman.  Lester was a US Army veteran where he played football for the army in Germany.  He also played semi-professional football for the Troy Chiefs, and his favorite professional team was the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Lester retired from Lecher’s Hardware as a manager and was Baptist by faith.  He was a member of the Troy Post #49 of the American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing, shuffleboard, bowling, and golf.

Lester is survived by his sons Wes (Nora Paeth) Watkins of Troy and Greg Watkins of Mansfield, PA, his grandchildren: Shauna Watkins, Jason (Jennifer) Watkins, and Kelsey Watkins, his great grandchildren: J.J. Watkins, Jacob Watkins, and Kennedy Watkins, his brother William “Bill” Watkins, and his sister Beverly Rockwell of Wellsburg, NY, along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his son Les Watkins.

The graveside service to honor Lester’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Glenwood Cemetery on East Main Street Troy with the Troy Veterans Honor Guard officiating.  The Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral & Cremation Services, Inc. 1093 West Main Street Troy, PA 16947 has been entrusted the arrangements.
