Helen S. Smith, Age 88, of Alex Acres Lane Troy, PA passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at the Robert Packer Hospital. She was born November 2, 1927 in Vineyard Haven, Martha’s Vineyard, MA. Following high school she attended Colby College in New Hampshire where she met her husband James W. Smith. Following college Helen was employed as a secretary at Western Electric in New York City and later at Piasecki Helicopter Manufacturing in Philadelphia, PA. She and “Doc’ married December 2, 1950. She later worked alongside “Doc” working at the Family Medical Practice for many years.
Helen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a Pack Leader with the Boy Scouts of America. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her loving family. She also enjoyed her pets.
Survivors include her loving husband of 65 years, “Doc” James W. Smith of Troy, two sons, F. Wesley & Mary Smith of Luthers Mills, William J & Wendy Smith of Franklindale, his daughter, Patricia Smith of Franklindale, grandchildren, Robert J. & Melissa Smith, Frank W. Smith, Patrick “Nick” Smith, Edward & Amanda Morris, Tammy & Tim Glissen, Chip & Sandy Luckman, Desree & Elwood Burto, James J. & Laurie Smith, Kyle S. Smith & Cindy Dewey, Kelsea Smith, Eugene J. Williams, Jennifer A. Williams & Theron Keltz, Brian J. Williams & Megan Correl, twenty two great-grandchildren, a sister Betty Bailey of Falmouth, MA and her brother Richard Gibbs of CO, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Family and friends are invited to call from 9 to 11 AM Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Gerald W. Vickery, Jr. Funeral Home, Inc. 1093 West Main Street, Troy. Helen’s memorial and committal service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 11 AM at the funeral home with Reverend Ken Marple officiating. A memorial luncheon will follow at the Olde Covert Church, Falbrook Road, Troy. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery.
