In his younger years, he enjoyed golf, tennis, hunting, and volleyball.  He also enjoyed playing bridge and rooting for the Cincinnati Reds.  Not long after moving to Troy, he discovered fly fishing and fly tying, which became his favorite pastimes.  He was a long time member of Trout Unlimited.  After retiring, he and Marge enjoyed many road trips around the country.  He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Troy, as well as a 67 year member of the American Legion.

Surviving Carl is a son, James M. Leitner of Lewisburg; niece Rhea (Shultz) Schoener of Womelsdorf; and nephew John Shultz of Lititz.
